La Poulalhera listen the Midi file for this traditional music tune score of this traditional tune
(The Poultrymaid)
Traditional from Piedmont.

When leaving her henhouse, the poultrymaid draw attention to her! The poulalhera character is caricatured enough to serve as a reference, cf. for instance in La Cansoun dai babarota.

This tune is often played in the County of Nice as a farandole.

1st verse
Poulalhera soun mandiana,
Dihon que li plas pas lou vin.
N’ai vist una l’autra sera, (twice)
Poulalhera soun mendiana,
Dihon que li plas pas lou vin.
N’ai vist una l’autra sera,
Larga e longa en lou camin.
 The poultrymaids are beggar (1),
They say they don’t like wine.
I saw one some other evening, (twice)
The poultrymaids are beggar,
They say they don’t like wine.
I saw one some other evening,
Broad and long on the lane (2).

Chorus
Vai t’en lèu, as proun da far,
Poulalhera, la poulalhera,
Vai t’en lèu, as proun da far
La poulalhera laisse-la ’stàr !
Go quickly, you have enough to do,
Poultrymaid, the poultrymaid,
Go quickly, you have enough to do,
The poultrymaid let she be (3)!

2nd verse
Veguessias la poulalhera
Coura s’aussa lou matin :
Esta mai d’un’ oura miéja, (twice)
Veguessias la poulalhera
Coura s’aussa lou matin :
Esta mai d’un’ oura miéja
Per si faire lu bigoudin !
 Could you see the poultrymaid
When she gets up on the morning:
She is more than one hour and half, (twice)
Could you see the poultrymaid
When she gets up on the morning:
She is more than one hour and half
To get her hair in curlers!

3rd verse
La poulalhera pastroulha,
Laisse-la pi pastroulhà.
Lou capèu qu’a su la testa, (twice)
(...)
Es encara da pagà !
 The poultrymaid chatters,
So let she chatter.
The hat she wears on her head, (twice)
(...)
Is still to be paid!

4th verse
Veguessias li poulalhera
Au balèti dau festin :
Coura balas la mazùrca, (twice)
(...)
Vous piston lu agacins !
 Could you see the poultrymaids
At the dance of the feast:
When you are dancing the mazurka, (twice)
(...)
They crush your corns!

1. They are being dishonest, etc.
2. Collapsed at full length, spread out at full length on the lane.
3. Where she is staying.
