Lo Boscant de la Maluna listen the Midi file for this traditional music tune score of this traditional tune
(The Woodcutter from The Maluna)
Traditional from County of Nice.

Memories of an old woodcutter who covered the forest called la mau luna, the “Bad Moon”, in the Valley of the Vesubie.

1st verse
’Sto sera mi fas languir
’Quelei velhaus de prima
Que feiám en per aqui
Me tu, bèla pichina, pichina.
 How I long tonight
For spring evenings of old
For the time I spent here
With you, fair maid.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
Si siam perduts,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
We lost each other,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

2nd verse
E lestes de bòn matin,
Li segulís ’sclapavan,
Obravo mé lo sapin
Li jainas que calavan, calavan.
Brave lads were we in the early morning,
Chopping down wood with our mighty axes,
I worked with my hoe,
Down fell the bare trunks, again and again.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
O que de bòsc,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
Oh! So much wood,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

3rd verse
Li mulas ben attelaus
Tiravan li jainassas,
Cumangles picats de la
’Naquelei serentassas, serentassas.
 The mules were well harnessed
And pulled the heavy trunks.
See the big hooks
Sticking in the pine trees.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
I era tant d’òbra,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
So much work,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

4th verse
Lo frei, se l’avem passat
’M’aquelei trompelieras.
De faisses n’avem ’strassat,
Assostats dintre l’iera, ’tre l’iera.
 We were felt cold
With our heavy coats.
Piling up stacks of firewood,
Putting them under cover in the barn.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
’N’aquel cortil,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
That pen,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

5th verse
Que de raissas enlampiaus,
De brimas e de penas,
De vent siblant, gelat,
Li nuechs de luna plena, ’na plena.
 Storms and streaks of lightning,
Frosty mornings, pain,
Howling, icy wind
By full moon.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
Forra passau,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
Past labours,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

6th verse
De seraus encaminaus
’N’aquela forestala,
De cançons entamenaus
Bachorlas sus la taula, la taula.
 Pleasant evenings
In our hut in the woods,
Bursts of song
Bottles on the table.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
Lo cant aisat,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
The easy singing,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

7th verse
Belessa li berri ros
Sota la coifa blanca,
Ben arramblats, totei dos,
Sota ’na bèla blaca, ’na blaca.
 Red-haired maid
With your white headdress,
In each other’s arms
Under the oak-tree.

Chorus
Ero boscant en la Maluna,
Enamorat,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
I was a woodcutter by Maluna,
I was in love,
How can I ever forget? (twice)

8th verse
Ai ben setant’ans passats
E parto ’n pauc en luga
E n’es l’ora de laissar
La pichina beluga, beluga,
 I am over seventy now
And in poor health
Time for me to snuff
The little spark

Chorus
Que m’a fach corr’en la Maluna,
De costat Dieu,
Jamai n’obliderai. (twice)
That drove me on at Maluna,
Nearer to Thee, my Lord,
How can I ever forget? (twice)
