La Fillo amé la maire listen the Midi file for this traditional music tune score of this traditional tune
(The Daughter with her Mother)
Traditional song from Guillaumes, County of Nice.

Within the text of this humorous song written in gavot (i.e. in nissart from the hinterland), the endings “o” –fillo, premièro jarbo, jouvenetto, pauro vieio– are the feminine marks of this language.

The theme of the man shared between the daughter and the mother is also encountered exactly in L’Ome e lo Gran.

1st verse
La fill’ amé la maire
Anavon mischounà
De bel aceje mé de bla.
La fill’ amé la maire
Anavon mischounà.
 The daughter with her mother
Were going to harvest
Beautiful rye and corn.
The daughter with her mother
Were going to harvest.

2nd verse
À la premièro jarbo
Troubèron un ome coujà,
Lou cul en l’èr, estrampalà.
À la premièro jarbo
Troubèron un ome coujà.
 At the first sheaf
They found a man lying,
Bare-bottomed, excessive.
At the first sheaf
They found a man lying.

3rd verse
La fill’ diguèt à la maire :
« Es iou que l’ai troubà,

“I did find him,
Bare-bottomed, excessive.”
(...)

4th verse
Lou pouartarèn au juge,
L’anerèn pledejà
Tout patanu couma l’avèn troubà.
(...)
We shall bring him to the judge,
We shall go and plead him
Bare-bottomed as we found him.
(...)

5th verse
Aquèu putan de juge
Leis anèt bèn jugà.
De la fli-fli, de la fla-fla.
(...)
 This bloody judge
Was going to well judge them.
And so on and so forth.
(...)

6th verse
À la fillo dounèt l’ome,
À la maire, lou blà.
De la fli-fli, de la fla-fla.
(...)
To the daughter he gave the man,
To the mother, the corn.
And so on and so forth.
(...)

7th verse
Tu que siès jouvenetto,
D’ome n’auriès troubà.
De la fli-fli, de la fla-fla.

 You who are young,
Men you would find.
And so on and so forth.
(...)

8th verse
E de iou, pauro vieio,
Que degun me voudrà.
De la fli-fli, de la fla-fla.

 But me, poor old woman,
Nobody will want me.
And so on and so forth.
(...)
