Griloulin mounta su a cima d’arlin,
Trova ’na froumigoura qu’cuia oun broc’ d’lin.		 Little cricket climbs on the top of the flax,
It finds an ant that was picking an yarn of flax.

Chorus

E rin lan lèrou e roun lan la. (twice)

2nd verse
« Bela froumigoura, loc ti fà aqui ?
— Fassi ’na camija per mi pihà oun mari. »		 “Pretty ant, what are you doing here?
— I’m making a shirt for catching me an husband.”

3rd verse
Grilou’ li dise : « Si pi’am’ da mi e ti »
E ’quella pretenciousa qu’ai vai a di que d’si !		 Little cricket says it: “Let’s take ourselves me and you”
And this pretentious that is going to say “yes”!

4th verse
Griloulin cara por i butà l’anè.
Ar s’n’é pica oun tera, ar se rout ar cervé.		 Little cricket goes down to put her the ring.
And falls down on the ground, and breaks its brain.

5th verse
Quella froumigoura tuta vestia d’do,
Passava ’n’le carere, fasiha crepà ’r co.		 This ant all dressed into mourning,
Passed through the small streets, making the heart break.
