(The Ant on the Ear)
Nissart lyrics by Joseph Passeron, music by François Mattei and Joseph Passeron. Traditional from County of Nice.

1st verse
Lou parpaioun va respirà
Lou perfum de la rosa blanca.
Va sus la fuèia, sus la branca
Cercà la flour per s’amusà.
 The butterfly goes and breathe
The perfume of the white rose.
It goes on the leaf, on the bough
And seek the flower to play.

Chorus
Ma la fourmiga
Va sus l’espiga dòu bla
Pilhà la grana,
Au trau s’en va. (twice)
 But the ant
Goes on the wheat ear
And takes the grain
[Then] to its hole leaves. (twice)

2nd verse
En jugan, lou grilou laugié
Dins l’erba tendra si regala.
Escouta cantà la cigala
A la cima de l’oulivié.
 While playing, the light cricket
In the tender grass has a delicious meal.
It listens to the cicada singing
At the top of the olive tree.

3rd verse
Au jardin va si proumena
Lou limassoun sensa couquilha.
Lou tavan d’or au soulèu brila,
Sus l’amendié va zounzounà.
To the garden is going for a walk
The small slug without shell.
The golden cockchafer in the sun is shining,
On the almond tree it is going to buzz.

4th verse
Dins lou ciel blu plen de cansoun,
Sus l’aiga fresca que l’atira,
La doumaisella vira, vira,
Es la regina dòu valoun.
Under the blue sky full of songs,
On the fresh water that entice her,
The young lady turns, dances,
She is the queen of the small valley.
