Me siéu plega listen the Midi file for this traditional music tune score of this traditional tune
(I fell asleep)
Lyrics by Nicolas Saboly, known as Micoulau Sabòli. Traditional from Provence.
Tune Du postillon (Of the postilion).

This Christmas carol begins the 6th book holding 6 carols, published on 1672 by Michel Chastel. It appears with number 40 in the Fr. Seguin’s new edition.

1st verse
Me siéu plega
E bèn amaga
Dedins ma flassado
Aquesto vesprado;
Veici que moun chin,
Toujour pu badin,
     Idoulo,
     Gingoulo,
Darrié moun couissin;
E pièi, à la fin,
     Lou fòu,
     Qu’a pòu,
     Me grato,
     Dei pato,
Lei tento dòu còu;
A tan varaia
Que m’a reviha.
 I fell asleep (1)
And well wrapped (2)
In the blanket (3)
On this evening;
And now my dog,
Always more playful,
     Roars (4),
     Yells [with a doleful tone]
Behind my pillow;
And then, finally,
     The fool,
     That it is frightened,
     Scratches me,
     With its legs,
Muscles of my neck;
It rummages so well
That it wakes me.

2nd verse
Ai vist en l’èr
Un ange tout verd,
Qu’avié de grans alo
Darrié leis espalo;
Permei sa clarta,
Ai vist sa bèuta,
     Sa mino
     Fort fino,
E sa majesta.
S’es mes à canta:
     Sa voues
     Ei boues
     Resouno,
     Fredouno,
Plus aut qu’un auboues;
Jamai tau plesi
Qu’aquéu de l’ausi.
 I’ve seen in the air
An angel whole greenish,
Having great wings
Behind his shoulders;
Among his light,
I’ve seen his beauty,
     His look,
     Greatly fine,
And his majesty.
He started to sing:
     His voice
     And his song
     Resonates,
     Hums,
Higher than an oboe;
Never pleasure as much
As that this one to hear.

3rd verse
Iéu ai souna
Touto la meina:
Chascun se reviho,
E presto l’auriho...
Sitost que l’an vi
E que l’an ausi,
     Sa gràci,
     Sa fàci
Leis a rejouï;
Soun esta ravi,
     Quand n’a
     Douna
     La bello
     Nouvello
Que Jèsus es na:
An tous fach un saut
Dessus lou coutau.
 Me I’ve called
The whole household:
Everyone wakes,
And listens carefully...
As soon as they have seen him
And they heard him,
     His grace,
     His face
Have gladdened them;
They have been delighted,
     When he has
     Given
     The fine
     News
That Jesus was born:
They all have dropped in
At the hill.

1. Plegà: to fold, but in the figurative sense, to fold eyelids means to sleep.
2. Amagà: to bury, to hide, to pile up, to heap up, to wrap...
3. Flassado: woollen blanket.
4. Idoulo: to roar, to yell, from Breton yudal.
