D’argent à une aigle de gueules, au vol abaissé, membrée, becquée et couronnée d’or, empiétant une montagne de trois coupeaux de sable issant d’une mer d’azur mouvant de la pointe et ondée d’argent.

From beautiful Carras up to the Gabella

Singing of Katherine
And Katherine.

Let the dolphins don’t break the fishing nets;
And we shall be happy as kings, as kings.
Come and hear
Dorothy, Fanny,
At its feast,
Singing of Katherine
And Katherine.

We make La Trappa inn to be full
Of the songs of our forefathers, our forefathers
And also the ceiling of the Chappa,
For the whole year we have fish, we have fish.
Rose, Lisoun,

From grandmother
Take out the chain,
The chain.

1. Carras and la Gabella (the Salt Tax) are the two old parts of the town of Nice which delimit the Baie des Anges. First one on the West side, second one on the East side reminds us of the existence of a salt depot in the Middle Ages.
2. Datoun is the diminutive of Douroutèa (Dorothy), Catin the one of Catarina (Katherine).
3. The St. Peter Day.
4. The fishermen from Nice dreaded the dolphins, because they damaged the fishing nets; they needed to mend them patiently.
5. La Trappa (The Breach): a well known inn, formerly located at the bottom of Malonat Street.
6. La Chappa: the old fish market, behind the Cours Saleya.
7. Women from Nice used to wear a golden chain, as the typical jewel from the city. See also Rouseta la pastressa.
