1st verse
Un ange a fa la crido
Qu’anue dins uno bastido,
Uno piéucello a fa
Un pichot enfant de la.
Dourmien sus la coulino
Lei bergié, davans matino,
Leis a reviha tous:
Hòu! pastre, levas-vous!
 An angel has made the announcement
That at night in a barn (1),
A virgin made
A small child there.
Sleeping on the hill
The shepherds, early in the morning,
He wakened all of them:
Hey! shepherds, get up!

2nd verse
An ausi la nouvello
Que li a di de la piéucello,
E n’an vist pèr un trau
Uno grand clartat en aut;
Ravi d’aquelo glòri,
Toutei sorton de la bòri,
E chascun fai un saut,
Houi! dessus lou coutau.
 They have heard the news
He has said them about the virgin,
And they saw through a hole [of the barn]
A great light at the top;
Delighted by this glory,
They all go out from the cabin,
And everyone does a jump,
Hup! on the hillside.

3rd verse
Courron pèr la mountagno,
Coume lèbres en campagno,
Pèr èstre lei premié.
Micoulau rèsto darrié,
Que menavo sa fiho;
Soun pèd ferra li resquiho,
Barrulo dòu coutau,
Ai! s’es gis fa de mau.
 They run across the mountain,
As hares in the country,
To be the first.
Nicolas remains behind,
That was leading his daughter;
His hobnailed foot slides,
He tumbles down the hill
Ouch! there’s no real harm done.

4th verse
Se freto un pau lou mourre,
Pièi après se bouto à courre
Pèr atrapa sei gènt,
Leis ajoun en Betelèn.
Li conto l’espetacle,
E dis qu’es un grand miracle
D’avé fach un tau saut,
Houi! sèns se faire mau.
 He rubs a bit his face,
Soon after he starts running
To catch up the people,
He reaches them in Bethlehem.
He relates them the accident,
And he says that it’s a great miracle
To have done such a jump,
Ouch! without doing himself harm.

5th verse
Touto aquelo bregado
Trovo la porto sarrado;
Sènso gis de respèt,
Chascun li pico dòu pèd:
L’un buto, l’autre crido;
Pèr intra dins la bastido,
Jieton la porto au sòu,
Plouf! tout tramblè de pòu.
 This whole gathering
Finds the door closed;
Without a little respect,
Everyone stamping his foot:
The one bumps, the other shouts;
To enter in the barn,
They throw the door on the ground,
Splash! all is trembling with fear.

6th verse
Noste brave sautaire
S’envai saluda la maire,
Rendent gràcis au Fiéu
De ce qu’èro incaro viéu.
Li fai la reverènço,
E sourtènt de sa presènço,
Fèt incaro un grand saut,
Houi! gaiard Micoulau!
 Our good jumper
Goes and salutes the mother,
Rendering thanks to the Son
As he was still alive.
He bows to him,
And going out of his presence,
Did again a great jump,
Ouch! sprightly Nicolas!
