Eugène Emanuel (Nice, 28 décembre 1817 - Nice, 23 avril 1880)
Notary, clerk, author, poet, songwriter.
Born of ancestors originating from Carpentras, and making their home in Nice on 18th century, Eugène, Joseph, Innocent Emanuel was studying in the Jesuits’ private school. Appointed notary on 1853, he preferred to make his career in judicial chancelleries, and was Clerk of the Court in Villars, Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, Contes, before to be appointed in Nice. After the annexation on 1860, Eugène Emanuel opted for the Italian nationality and went to Oneille, then Modene and at last Genoa where he ended his career.
About fifteen of Eugène Emanuel’s poems were gathered by his son Victor (1) and publicated on 1884 under the title Canson Niçardi d’Eugène Emanuel (“Eugène Emanuel’s songs from Nice”).

1. Victor Emanuel (Oneille, Italy, 1862 - Nice, 1913 december 11th) was a key figure in local news papers, by contributing for instance to the Armanac niçart (Almanac of Nice) founded by Jules Eynaudi, or being the editor of Nice historique (2).
2. Nice historique: review founded on 1898 by professor Henri Sappia (Touët-de-l’Escarène, 17 avril 1833 - 1906), that will become the Acadèmia nissarda (Learned Society of Nice) official organ, when created on 1904.
